The gentleman in this video, Ian McCollum, has a channel on Youtube called, Forgotten Weapons. It's a great channel if you haven't seen it before. He is working with the group in the video link below to put together a tour of the Solomon Islands to include Guadalcanal. Do you want to stand where John Basilone stood that fateful night he won the Medal of Honor? On this tour you can stand there on the same night this year that he did so many years ago.

This tour visits the sites of 10 Medal of Honor winners. Check out the link below for more info. Sounds like an awesome tour!

  • As someone from a post-WWII generation, a generation of the space age, you really can't understand why it took the US so long to return to the Pacific, as General McArhur promised, until you are on these remote islands. Then imagine how difficult it was to build a runway (some still don't have runways) during a war. Plus, how far that was to travel in the primitive aircraft. Once you are there, it sinks in, then makes sense. (Disclaimer: I have not been to the Solomon Islands, but instead lived in the West Pacific. I lived, worked, and visited many West Pacific Islands where WWII battles took place. I have also flown on the military Christmas Drop over incredibly remote islands. I've also interviewed WWII survivors in the West Pacific.)

  • This would be an incredible and emotional trip.
