The monument 'De Oversteek' was designed by Marius van Beek. The original design consisted of two stone columns with texts and a memorial stone with 48 names lying in front of it. These 48 names are the soldiers who died during the Waal crossing on September 20, 1944. It is located on the Oosterhoutsedijk near the bridge de Oversteek where, at the time of the2nd world war, the operation actually took place. A text is engraved on both columns. On the left column it says: "U.S. 82nd AIRB. DIV. WAALCROSSING 20 SEPT. 1944 504 PARACHUTE INFANTRY 307 ENG. 376 PFABn IN CO-OP. WITH 505 PAR. INFANTRY GUARDS ARMOURED DIV. 18 SEPT. 1984."
