  • Thank you Scott for your comment. The most sad part is that he died caused by friendly fire.

    • Makes this even sadder and more tragic.

  • Private Emile Servais Corteil was a member of A Company, 9th (Essex) Parachute Battalion participated in the D-Day landings on 6 June 1944. Having been assigned as a dog handler, Private Corteil was responsible for the welfare and training of 'Para Dog' Glen, who was a significant component of the Company's guard and patrol duties. Emile and Glen had successfully executed their jump as part of the allied airborne assault. Private Corteil died on D-Day, having made the ultimate sacrifice at nineteen. Glen, Emile's faithful companion, also passed away at his side. Private Corteil was finally laid to rest at Ranville War Cemetery, Normandy, and Glen was buried alongside him. Extremely moving and sad. - Scott
