The Glorious Cause: The American Revolution, 1763-1789, was the first book to appear in the The Oxford History of the United States. This first work was authored by the late Robert Middlekauff, former Professor of American History at UC Berkeley and Harmsworth Professor of American History at Oxford University. First published in 1982 and revised and expanded in 2005, The Glorious Cause, finalist for the Pulitzer Prize, remains the best work on the American Revolutionary War.
