Carolyn Orehovic enlisted in the Women Marines in March 1943. During her service, she served at Headquarters, Marine Corps where she met John Basilone. The contents of this set are items that she kept in a scrapbook documenting her relationship with him.

"Marine Congressional Medal of Honor Hero Interviewed. Platoon Sergeant John Basilone, USMC, recently visited the Marine Headquarters at Washington, DC. Pl. Sgt. Basilone's home is Raritan, NJ. He was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for "Extraordinary heroism and conspicuous gallantry in action above and beyond the call of duty." Here, he is pictured being interviewed by a Wave, Yeoman 3/c Sigrid Shield."
