Carolyn Orehovic enlisted in the Women Marines in March 1943. During her service, she served at Headquarters, Marine Corps where she met John Basilone. The contents of this set are items that she kept in a scrapbook documenting her relationship with him.


Telegram from John Basilone to Carolyn Orehovic, 8 September 1943

John sent this telegram to Carolyn letting her know that he was going to be in Washington.

"Dear Carolyn Arrived in New York Okay seen the Mayor. Going on bond tour tomorrow will be in Washington about 25th.

Chin up Love,

Johnny"
