    On Tuesday, April 22, the Military History Club of the Missouri Athletic Club welcomes a
    return, in-person visit by Dr. Don Hickey, who will speak on "The War of 1812: Why Is
    This Conflict All But Forgotten Today?"

    The War of 1812 played a central role in shaping the development of the United States
    in the nineteenth century, but it is all but forgotten today.  Why is this so?  Why do most
    Americans, even those who are well educated, know so little about such an important
    event in our history?  In this lecture, Don Hickey identifies what he thinks are the
    principal reasons that explain why this war has slipped so deep into the recesses of our
    public memory.

    Don Hickey is an award-winning author who has written twelve books and more than a
    hundred articles. Called the “Dean of 1812 scholarship” by the New Yorker, he is best
    known for The War of 1812: A Forgotten Conflict (Bicentennial edition, 2012), Don’t
    Give Up the Ship! Myths of the War of 1812 (2006) and is latest book, Tecumseh
